THE HEART OF AN ANCIENT MAYA CITY BULLDOZED

The ancient city of Nohmul is the most important trace of the Maya history in Northern Belize and one of the greatest centres of Yucatan. Its beauty and importance attracted the interest of archaeologists, historians and travellers for more than a century.

The destruction of the main pyramid to use the limestone material for road construction represented a deliberate disrespect for the history and culture of an entire region. Now a large part of the pyramid and its millennial history is lost forever.

Unfortunately, all the scientific publications providing more details about the long history of Nohmul before the destruction of one of its symbols are currently on purchase (unless you have access through a university or other account). Below you will find the link to a selection of these papers.
